2025 Tradie Taster Program
Description of Course:
To introduce Year 10 students into a range of ‘hands on’ Trade course experiences to prepare them to make INFORMED decisions about the VCAL vocational course they select in Year 11 & 12.
Rational:
Many students select a VCAL pathway with extremely limited knowledge or experience in their chosen vocation. Through this ‘Tradie Taster’ course, the student has an opportunity to participate in an introductory course in a range of differing trades. Furthermore, the course offers the student an insight into both the practical and theoretical skills and concepts that the selected trade course encompasses. The taster course gives the student an exploratory learning experience into the VET educational setting coupled with the initial acquisition of job readiness skills.
Outcome:
Students will have had exposure to some of the VET courses offered at ONTTC along with experience in other trade skills. They will have taken part in individual and team project based learning. They will have completed a Construction Industry White Card (giving them access to Construction sites to engage in work experience the following year).
Course Outline: :
Week ONTTC Induction/ Introduction week
33 weeks on a rotation between the trades (10 weeks in each Trade)
1 week for administrative enrollment and OHS induction.
